Ghana's popstar who was sentenced to death for murder in the early 1990s

In the 1970s, Nana Kwasi Agyemang, also known as Gemann, was a Ghanaian dance champion.

His style was a carbon copy of Michael Jackson's, which catapulted him to international fame.

Later, Geeman won the world's best dancer award and embarked on a global tour with his Michael Jackson-style dancing and music.

Abeiku Nyame nicknamed Jaga Pee paid a visit to his friend Gemann, who was anticipating a visitor, Nadia, a lady friend with ambitions to be an actress.

At Gemann's residence, there were three of them. Jaga Pee, Gemann, and another woman named Vic.

Nadia arrived in a taxi and informed Gemann that the fare was 3000 Cedis (30 pesewas today).

The driver protested, claiming that the negotiated fare was 4000 Cedis rather than 3000 Cedis.

Gemann insisted on paying 3000 and tossed the cash into the taxi.

The driver drove away and returned a little while later. He came this time to collect the sand beneath Gemann's imprint for spiritual purposes.

This enraged Gemann, who went to his room, returned with a gun, and charged straight into his buddies and driver.

Jaga Pee was holding the driver at the moment, preventing him from fleeing.

Gemann, the popstar, opened fire on the cab driver, who died instantly. Vic, Jaga Pee, Nadia, and Geeman, the four people who were present at the crime scene, were all arrested.

Nadia and Vic were acquitted and released after a few of years in court.

For aiding and abetting crime, Jaga Pee was sentenced to life in jail, while the main perpetrator and prime suspect, Gemann, was sentenced to death.

On appeal, Jaga Pee's sentence was reduced to two years, but Gemann's punishment was upheld.

Since the time Gemann was sentenced to death, no President has signed for the execution of prisoners, therefore he has remained in prison, waiting for the day when a President will sign for the execution of convicts.
